    The Moravian wine area

The Moravian wine area and its character gives it the ideal conditions for the production of mainly white wines which are famous for their wide spectrum of scents and spices mainly thanks to the composition of the soil in the area, which gives the wine its excellent quality.

The annual average temperature is about 9.42°C, the average yearly rainfall is 510mm and the average length of sunshine is 2.244 hours. There are 80% forms of wine classified as good, delicious and excellent quality in the region of South Moravia and only 20% of the forms of wine have lower classification of quality. This is a very good percentage when compared to other European areas.

The climate is characterised as transitional and continental with occasional inroads of the humid air from the Atlantic and also from the North Sea. The vegetation period is usually shorter than the average in Western Europe, but it exceeds by the warm intensity of the summer months, which has very positive effect on the wine growth. This enables the cultivation of various species characterised by the late maturity of its grapes which gives the wine its excellent quality.

The maturing of grapes is much slower in the Moravian region. This has the effect of the grapes containing the higher amount of concentration of substances and bigger variety of aroma.
